Today I drove all over the damn place trying to find the cajun restaurant where I had ordered the turducken. Turns out it’s a funky little cajun market with an “afterthought restaurant” in it, meaning that it seems like they sold mostly fresh seafood and cajun goodies (alligator!) and then set up a couple tables so people could enjoy some cooked crawfish right there if they wanted. I walked to the counter and told the guy I was here to pick up our turducken.

“OK, I’m glad you’re here!”

“uhh..me too!”

“So…” looks at list “OK. We’re only going to have a problem if you are Jewish or Muslim.”

double-u. tee. eff? I know this is the south, but really? REALLY???

It wasn’t what I thought. It turns out that while I and many other people had ordered the green pepper stuffing, the place where they get their turduckens had only sent 3. There were enough turduckens for everyone, but only if you were OK getting a different stuffing. Like cornbread and rice, which contains pork. Which is not so good if you are jewish or muslim.

I left with a heavy box of cornbread and rice stuff turducken and made my way through the northern burbs to a Trader Joe’s to exchange the crap decaf coffee I had bought accidentally for actual coffee.

We’re driving my tiny escort to my inlaws, since Kev wants to do more work on it - replace brakes, transmission flush, replace power steering fluid (there is something very wrong with my power steering - the fluid has to be replaced every couple years), etc. All this means that we’re going to be very very crammed in my car on the trip. Food and car stuff in the trunk, suitcases and Sadie in the back seat. Hope we make it in one piece!
