Wow. I didn’t expect so much feed back on my last post! Very strong feelings on both sides out there. I don’t want to turn my blog into a forum for discussing problems with the US’s health care industry, but it’s obvious from the majority of the commenters that change is needed.
For those of you who are concerned about me: I’m fine. And if I had woken up that Friday feeling worse than I did Thursday, you can bet that I would have definitely gone to the hospital. Yes, major medical would have covered hospitalization and surgery if I needed it. It would have cost us $2000: $1000 deductable + 20% of the next $5000. And that would not have bankrupted us. We would have found the money somehow - pulled it out of what we’ve been saving for our IRA contribution this year, borrowed from family, whatever. It would have been OK.
Like I said: I am LUCKY. Many many MANY others aren’t so lucky. And THOSE people are the reason our system needs an overhaul. Because we are not all 20-something year old young men who have parents paying for our cheap and skimpy health insurance.
MOVING ON
Kev, Sadie, and I will be spending this Thanksgiving holiday in Pittsburgh with my family. I know we were just there, but DAMMIT I am trying to set up a holiday schedule here, and I’m not going to let a little anomaly throw us off so soon. I haven’t been with my family for Thanksgiving in 4 years, so we’re long overdue.
We are DRIVING up there, and we’re leaving tomorrow afternoon and just driving STRAIGHT through. I am already set with my pack of Starbucks Espresso Double Shots and plenty of snacks.
I hope all my American friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of good food, friends, and family. And for all the non-americans, maybe have yourself a turkey sammich on Thursday think of us
I leave you with last year’s Thanksgiving masterpiece: THE TURDUCKEN
behold it’s terrifying visage!
You guys have a fun and safe trip!!!
Have a safe trip, drive carefully, and wave at me when you pass DC!
Is Kev going to do most of the driving so you get knitting time in? Have fun with the fam! And I’m very glad to hear that you are doing better.
Happy Turkey Day, ESC!
Have a fabulous time!
Can you knit in the car? I can’t–motion sickness gets me within 10 minutes. It’s a big waste of prime knitting time when we go to St. Paul for Detour meetings–so sad.
BUT here’s hoping that you feel tip top by the time it’s time to nomnomnomnomnomOMnomnomnom! My mom and brother are coming in today with sandbakkelse and lefse and pie… mmmm, sandbakkelse…
Hope you had a great safe trip and that you will be posting more and wonderfully witty remarks in the future.
Turducken….aaaaaaaahhhhh! That looks golden crusty and delicious! Hope all went well to and fro PA. Did you see the turducken wrapped in bacon? It was the turbaconducken or something. Because that’s what a turducken needs is more meat!
