“I would wear sandals. I’ve worn sandals all summer.”

“ow! ow ow ow! get it off GET IT OFF!”

“I told you that you should have brought better shoes.”

“I didn’t remember, I haven’t lived in florida for years”

“uh huh…WE’RE AT THE BEACH! WHO BRINGS HIKING BOOTS TO THE BEACH???”

  • Do NOT get sunburned on your honeymoon!

  • WTF is your husband doing to that chicken?

  • Mmmm, beer can chicken!

What the fuck are sand spurs? I’m with you, I would never think of the beach as being a place of pain in sandals. Kev should have warned you.

Speaking of Kev…hahahahaha, he ate DOG BISCUITS!!!

  • Butt Chicken!! I’ve always wanted to see somebody make it.

  • Um… That THING is LOOKING at me!

And I’ve been to florida, and I don’t recall sand spurs? I was barefoot for days and LOVED it!

  • Having lived near the beach for a few years, I learned quickly that you don’t want anything that exposes your foot on hot sand. Definately water shoes all the way.

The chicken looks so comfortable sitting there cooking for your eating pleasure.

  • OK, you know when you go walking in the woods, and when you come out, there are a few spiky brown balls attached to the bottom of your pants?

So imagine those…by the thousands…and smaller and somehow more painful…growing plentifully around your house. and just the slightest brush against the plant puts 3 or 4 of them on your foot.

that in itself is not painful, but trying to pull them OFF is. the ends of the spikes are barbed.

for extra fun, sometimes these barbed spikes break off and form little darts of pain embedded in your carpet, waiting for your unsuspecting bare feet.

I have a very painful little hole in the bottom of my left foot where I had to dig one out with nail clippers.

    yeowtch.

it stormed last night, and the wind is KICKIN’ IT. no fishing for us today. no BEACH for us today. so we are being lazy until we figure out where we want to go today.

there is a guy who sells fresh seafood from a van in town (note: it is OK to buy seafood from a guy in a van when you are at the shore. it is NOT OK to buy seafood from a guy in a van if say…you live in Oklahoma. Just sayin’) and we might pick up some fresh shrimp.

also, for those concerned about Sadie’s health and well being while we’re away, rest assured…she is doing fine.

  • Never seen those sand spurs but they sound awful. He brought hiking boots? Doesn’t he know FL is flat?

Rainy beach days always bring out the creative side in most people. Otherwise you go crazy and kill each other. So play some games or do a puzzle!

  • YEAY!!! Honeymoon!

I too, experienced the sand spurs, when we were in the Outer Banks in NC. They HURT. Seriously… I had exactly the same reaction as you!

Speaking of beer can chicken, half the fun is looking at the thing. We made it on a camping trip a couple years ago, and I couldn’t resist sticking a fork under it’s wing before I took a picture. I mean, it seems like it’s staring you down when it’s all sitting up with a beer can up it’s butt. Freaky.

  • ahh, the joy of sand spurs…North and Northcentral Florida are full of them. I almost forgot about those. Growing up in Northcentral FL, to this day I STILL will not walk about barefoot outdoors. I remember my Mom working every summer for many years to try and rid those buggers from our yard. For those that have lived in the midwest, they are also called cockleburs. Here is a link for Sand spurs; not ironically it is from the University of Florida….
