insoluable fiber

So some of you may be asking “Does ESC still do anything crafty or fiber related?”

OK, a few of you. Not most of you. Most of you just shut up and keep reading ;)

and the answer is YES, I DO! The summer heat has sucked away much of my knitting mojo, but with the recent surrender to the gods of air conditioning, I suddenly got hit with some serious spinning mojo. I had been working very slowly on some fiber I bought last year (but only actually got a few months ago) from copper pot woolies. I love the colors, but for some reason, I really fought with this fiber. It might have been a little felted, or maybe just stickier than I’m used to. But I still managed to spin a fairly decent yarn with it. I finished spinning and started plying last night, and then finished plying this afternoon.

whole hank

mmm…yummy!

ummm...dk?

what do you think, dk weight?

It’s 4oz and I got about 260 yards. Not TOO shabby. I think I’m still underplying, dammit. AND underspinning - my singles kept breaking as I was plying.

I stayed up late last night to spin, and I think I did more continuous spinning than I ever have before. My spinning muscles are puny and weak, though, because I walked around all day like I had a charlie horse. OMG WIMP! I need to spin more. Later. when my leg feels better. *sniff* It REALLY hurts!!!

Sadie wasn’t thrilled with my spinning late into the night, either.

HEY!

Escuse me? i iz TRYIN to sleeps here!

Today as I plied she just stared at the spinning wheel…mesmerized. It was very funny.

Next fiber to experiment with…SILK!

She DOES look pissed! The spinning looks great! I have that same problem with underspinning. It seems like I’m spinning it tight and then I go to ply and the whole thing is loosy goosy!! Well, looser than I would like anyhow………

She wasn’t mesmerized… she was still unfocused and studip from lack of sleep because of your silly, noisy and annoying spinning.

Lovley yarn. You know, as overspund as my yarn is lately, between the two of us we make a very balanced fiber!
