Today I went to Jane’s house and did this:

a rewarding week

Whew, made it!  Out of the parking garage, and through my first week at my new job.  It’s been fun, busy, somewhat boring, and awesome all around.  It was a trial by fire, really, as they threw us into a huge undertaking that while not mentally challenging, was still quite the challenge to get done by the deadline.  In the end we finished in plenty of time, with the recruited help from all over the office (never would have made it without the help) and got treated by the manager of Quality Assurance to lunch yesterday, as a thank you for a job well done. purple haze

When I was a little girl, my favorite color was purple. Other girls liked pink. And barbies. But I was not so much a fan of the Barbie - unless it was to crudely hand sew clothing for her using scraps of fabric my grandmother gave me. I liked purple. And unicorns. And pegasuses. Pegasi? And all things Lisa Frank (I had her bubble gum machine patterned bed set OH YES I DID!) Yeah, I was super cool as a kid. But then I outgrew all that. Right about the time my mom decided to surprise me by painting my room purple and stenciling unicorns, moons, and stars around the windows. Thanks mom! I got too cool (HA!) for purple and unicorns. Instead I was drawn to brown. And…more brown. And black. And dark greens. Pft. Teen angst, expressed in colorways. More »

insoluable fiber

So some of you may be asking “Does ESC still do anything crafty or fiber related?”

OK, a few of you. Not most of you. Most of you just shut up and keep reading ;)

and the answer is YES, I DO! The summer heat has sucked away much of my knitting mojo, but with the recent surrender to the gods of air conditioning, I suddenly got hit with some serious spinning mojo. I had been working very slowly on some fiber I bought last year (but only actually got a few months ago) from copper pot woolies. I love the colors, but for some reason, I really fought with this fiber. It might have been a little felted, or maybe just stickier than I’m used to. But I still managed to spin a fairly decent yarn with it. I finished spinning and started plying last night, and then finished plying this afternoon. More »

the weekend bus that hit me

Saturday we made yet another pilgrimage to Costco, this time for Kev. The company he works for decided suddenly that they were no longer going to provide free lunches to the phone support guys who worked through lunch. Nice. Some frozen enchiladas from Trader Joe’s got him through last week, but he needed a bit more, as he works weirdo long hours and has to eat twice at work. So we stocked up on plenty of lunchmeat, cheese, bread, yogurt, veggies and whatever else he could stuff into the break room’s fridge and freezer.

Sunday required planning and preparation. The Yarn Harlot was in town again, and this time Grace had decided to…well…grace us with her presence. So cleaned up a bit to make the condo slightly less embarrassing as I waited for her to arrive (hey, did you know we had a coffee table underneath all that junk? amazing!) There was some confusion about the directions I had given, but the nice thing about I285 is that it is a loop - even if you get on way too early, you EVENTUALLY make it to where you’re going. More »
