Today was supposed to be a lazy day.  Pajamas, hot cups of tea, CNN, my spinning wheel…

We weren’t supposed to do a damn thing.  That was the plan, until at around 2:17pm, I heard this emanate from the spare bedroom, aka Kev’s Manputer room.

“So how about we head out to Amaryn’s for a late lunch and then go to Ikea?”

There are few things on earth that will make me willingly give up an afternoon of completely laziness.  The combination of my favorite thai noodle place and Ikea was like a double whammy - sloth didn’t stand a chance next to greed.

So an afternoon of wandering Ikea it was - we were really there to do some research on our future kitchen remodel - NOT to buy anything.  And by “not buy anything” I mean “not buy anything relating to the kitchen remodel” because you KNOW I need to stock up on swedish scented candles, cork trivets, and frozen meatballs.

We made some decisions about the kitchen, changed things around a bit, spoke with Ron, Ikea kitchen expert, who was very helpful,  etc, etc.  I think we might do a mix of white and black doors on the cabinets…the cheaper countertops, and ohhh my, we fell in love with a country style double sink.  Porcelain, which yeah, has its drawbacks, but OOHHHH so pretty!  For $300 though…that’s going to take some thinking about.

And then…our final stop before grabbing a couple hotdogs on our way out…the as-is department.

Where…we fell down a bit. We didn’t plan on buying anything for the kitchen yet…but we saved almost $200…and really, the damage isn’t SO bad…fixable!  Will hardly be noticable…

So the economy is sinking faster than…than…a thing that sinks really fast!  A boat with a lot of holes!  or something.  Anyway, so yeah.  The bailout failed…for now.  As someone who has very little vested interested in the stock market, I’m finding it very difficult to care.  I find it hard to believe that it’s OMG THE END OF THE WORLD!  ARMAGGEDON!  4 HORSEMEN!  BABIES EATING OTHER BABIES!!!  Somehow this is going to correct itself - I’m hoping for a smaller bailout that includes something in it for US.  I’m not in forclosure or anything (KNOCK ON THE BIGGEST PIECE OF WOOD AVAILABLE), but if my hard earned tax dollars are going to fix the mistakes of some dumbass in an overpriced suit, I want something OUT of it.  Use of their washroom.  A former excutive to do some work around the house.  Something like that. Kev is fixing the AC in my car. He believes the problem is a circuit thingy located in a box doohickey that’s burnt out. Or something. I wasn’t really paying attention. What I did pay attention to were the phrases “$400 fix at shop” and “$20 part to do it myself”. OK, sold.

The $20 part came today, and Kev sat and examined the doohickey that the part must be attached to. More »« Less

Today we waved the white flag at the heat and turned on the AC. I reasoned that if we ever wanted to get anything DONE around the house - cleaning, cooking, stuff like that - we were going to have to be able to move from point A to point B without dripping sweat everywhere. With no AC and temps shooting way into the 90’s, I’m not good for much except laying on the couch and being sticky. Sexy, but not productive. More »« Less

A month or so ago, one of us noticed that there seemed to be some sort of clear liquid pooling in the cabinet under the sink. We ran the faucet for a while and stared, and found no serious culprit. But just in case, I stuck an old plastic bucket that once contained goldfish crackers under some pipes, and declared ourselves to be MASTER PLUMBERS because surely, we had solved that problem once and for all.
