All right… answer me this, eh? Why is DNA not called DrNA, huh?
the first letter denotes the sugar group of the molecule.
RNA = ribonucleic acid
DNA - deoxyribonucleic acid, because one of the -OH groups on the ribose sugar is gone, so it’s a deoxyribose sugar.
ribose and deoxyribose are two different sugars.
does that make sense?
It makes sense, but in a different world with a different naming scheme, I’d be asking why DrNA is not DNA…
