amazing facts!

A few days a week, I participate in the email conversations between Aimee, Julie, Sloth, and myself. These conversations are one of the few things that keep me sane.

Julie:If I had door ice, I would use ice a lot more. In my world, I only use ice cubes in the summer to make iced tea and sangria, so right now my ice cube trays are half filled as the ice has mysteriously dissolved in the freezer over the course of the winter.

Aimee: How does it do that? That’s so weird.

ESC:it evaporates*. it happens very very slowly, because of the cold. but it happens :) MYSTERY SOLVED!

Julie: Wow. Hey, ESC? Why is the sky blue? And like bluer in the summer than it is in the winter? (I ask because if you know the answer to the ice cube mystery, you must know everything.)

ESC: I can only reveal one amazing scientific fact per day. it’s why I can’t ever be a teacher. oh, that? and I hate most kids.
* OK, OK…whatever science freaks are left that still read my blog are screaming “NOOOOOO!!!!” after reading that. Because TECHNICALLY it is not evaporation. It is sublimation, which is the process of a solid state going straight to a gaseous state, skipping right over the liquid state. Just like dry ice. And yes, a BETTER scientist would have answered the question with “sublimation” and launched into a complicated explanation. And that’s why these scientists don’t get invited to the fun parties.

This is why you will always be invited to the cool parties. Because you take into account that your listener has been dumbed down by years of TV watching. :)

  2. 2 Aimee

I will always invite you to my parties. That presupposes that they are the “Fun” parties, which they may or may not be, but you will get an invitation nonetheless. If for no other reason than you know how to use the word “sublimation” in a non-psychological way. Very impressive.

    Dork.

But sublimation is sooo cool! Who wouldn’t want to hear about it in nauseating detail?

I bet those scientists also don’t have a Wii and kick ass at Wii bowling.

Julie and Aimee - we should totally throw a cool party. Hmmm…might be difficult to coordinate, as we form the largest triangle possible in the continental US…

Eryn - I don’t even think CHEMISTS want to hear about sublimation in nauseating detail.

    Grace - rock on.

Our triangle could be a teeny bit larger if I moved to Seattle, Julz moved to Northern Maine, and you moved to Miami. Or Austin, Texas.

Dude. Don’t move to Texas. That would suck.

  7. 7 ESC

I’m too fat to move to miami ;)

Is that one of those parties with the finite improbability generator that causes the hostesses undergarments to spontaneously jump one meter to the left? Because those parties ROCK!!

Learn something everyday. Why is the ocean blue?
