Thanks for all your well wishing and encouragement. Thursday was just a bad day. But things are getting better. Friday I was without car - normally Kev would have left me his car and driven his truck to work, but it rained all day and his truck doesn’t have functioning windshield wipers.
So I holed up at home, drank hot tea and hot chocolate wrapped myself in warm blankets…and just wallowed in self pity for a day.
The I picked up my knitting needles and got over myself. Late friday night, I finished these:
She’s suh an excellent model, isn’t she? MAH MONKEY SOCKS ARE DONE!
Technically, it’s the toe up version of the monkey pattern, Los Monos Locos. Done in Socks That Rock lightweight, in the christmas ball colorway, which was a christmas gift from Julie! Let’s all take a moment to think about how wonderful Julie is! Especially since I just bought her gift a couple weeks ago and STILL haven’t sent it! Go me! I’m a bitch.
Saturday was CHRISTMAS all over again. I got a box from Amazon in the mail containing this
I’ve already started a sweater from this book, so now that I have my own I can give Jane her copy back, once she gets back from her “I don’t ski” ski trip.
Then there was a knock at the door. It was a woman who owns one of the condos here but doesn’t live in it, and rarely checks her mail. Something of mine was in her mailbox. I’ll say…
This is fiber I ordered back in NOVEMBER for a christmas part in DECEMBER. The USPS tracking number claimed it was delivered, and I have been going back and forth with the post office ever since. I KNEW what happened. No one would listen. But I knew that the package got put into one of the lockers down at the mailboxes, and the key was stuck in the wrong mailbox. I KNEW IT! I feel vindicated. And also, since the party was long ago, I GET TO KEEP IT ALL! 3.5oz of rainbow pencil roving, a 4.5oz ball of Sunken Treasure (the blue) and 4.5oz of Comanche Moon (the red, orange, and blue). ALL MINE!!! I think it’s merino. I got it from this woman:
who does not believe on putting her etsy site on her business card, but if you search for Copper Pot woolies, I’m sure you’ll find it. Excuse me, I have to go squish some fiber…
Making my christmas in febrary even BETTER is MY FIXED CAR! Kev worked on it this afternoon, and I helped where I could. I picked up a new belt tensioner - had to drive up Jimmy Carter (the highway, not the ex president)to get it, and shell out $70, but there ya go. I also was able to perform such critical services such as “hand me that” and “put your finger there and push” and “can you go warm me up some tea”. I feel like an invaluable member of the team, really.
as I get into Kev’s car to go pick up the part, I notice a belt-like object in the passenger seat.
ESC: is that the belt from my car?
Kev: yep.
ESC: well….THERE’S your problem! It’s in the wrong car, silly!
Kev: I am going to KICK YOUR ASS!
Lord, it was miserable work. Nothing is convenient to get at, and the cold weather made Kev’s fingers numb and difficult to work with. We were both chilled to the bone by the time everything was all done. He’s taking a nice, long, hot shower right now, and after that is my turn. And after THAT we’re going to go OUT for dinner.
Things are better. Not everything has gone the way I’ve planned, but really, what ever does?
That pic of Sadie is my favorite Monkey FO pic evah.
If your very bestest friend who is an expert dog trainer and loves to give training advise [sic] via youtube video comments saw it though, she would probably sigh and scold you gently and oh so passive aggressively that socks make very ineffective muzzles when dealing with dangerous knit “protective” dogs like Sadie.
I always say “There are your plans and then there is life”. Sometimes things that seem like big disappointments are just your path taking you along to where you really should be.
PS - I just ordered some merino from the same woman and it is beautiful!!! I’m gonna blog it today!
I’m glad you’re having a better time of it hun, and you’re right, things just don’t go right sometimes. There’s nothing to do but keep moving forward. Hugs.
I love your monkey socks. And the model is adorable!
Glad things got better. Socks look great!
I’ve changed a belt like that before and it is a pain. However, sounds like you were the best kind of helper. One that listens.
I mostly just kept him company - I felt pretty useless. My favorite part was when I went to pick up the new part, and Jose’ from O’Reilly’s took it out of the box and set it in front of me. I guess so I could see that it was the correct part I was buying.
“dude, you could set ANYTHING in front of me, and I wouldn’t know the difference. Thanks, though! Looks very nice.”
Fortunately, it WAS the right part. Let’s hope the new one prevents any more large puddle mishaps!
I *am* awesome. But so are you, for predicting that Christmas Balls would make an excellent pair of Monkeys. And now I am going to go order fiber from that woman. Because I don’t have enough fiber and I spend all my time in front of the wheel. (Strike that. Reverse it. Now it’s correct.)
Hooray for Kev! You’re our hero keeping your family wheelin’ and dealin’.
Sorry that thing didn’t happen. That really sucks.
