Last night Kev and I were supposed to go to a friend’s house for game night - well, Wii night. But the birthday girl got sick and plans were canceled, and Kev and I were left with a bowl of spinach artichoke dip and no plans for the night.
Sounds like home improvement time to me!
We bought new bathroom light fixtures months and months ago at Costco, and then on a recent trip found coordinating ceiling lights. Score! Now we can replace the hideously ugly existing lights throughout our home! No more strip of bare lightbulbs in the bathrooms or faux gold boob lamps on the ceiling! And for good measure, let’s replace the harsh fluorescent lights in the laundry room, too.
So for the rest of the evening, Kev and I stood on a stepstool and carefully unwired old fixtures and replaced them with new. It wasn’t pleasant work, as reaching up and holding a fixture against the ceiling with one hand while trying to twist the wires together with the other can be tricky and cause back spasms. We got them all done, though, and what a nice improvement it has been
in both bathrooms:
and in the entranceway, in front of the closets, and in the laundry room:
They do actually match - they have the same swirly glass. Now all we have to do is…paint. Ugh. Especially in the bathroom, where you can see where the old light fixture used to be, and how the ugly wallpaper underneath two coats of paint went around it. That wallpaper? Has to come down. In both bathrooms. In the spare bathroom, there are TWO LAYERS of wallpaper. Bleeargh.
In happier news, I got to hang out with friends at Knitch today. As per instructions, we all brought our Mission Possible 2008 projects to work on. I picked up the Kew socks again.
Umm…OK. This is the same yarn, from the same hank, just wound into two balls. Annnnd…can you see the problem?
Sock on the left: subtle stripes.
Sock on the right: obvious diagonal pooling.
Fortunately, I’m not one of those anal retentive knitters who demand that their handknitted socks look identical.
*twitch*
Nope, not me. It just adds to their *twitch* charm.
Doesn’t bother me at all.
*twitch*
Oh dear. I totally understand because *twitch* I’m that way about my beadwork, which is why I rarely, if ever, okay, NEVER, do free-form beadwork… it’s not symmetrical, you see *twitch* although I have been trying to overcome this phobia-analness. I just like symmetry… is there something wrong with that????
Love your lights!!! We have stripped the first layer of wallpaper in our downstairs bathroom but still need to replace the light (we have had the new light for like a friggin year) and take off the rest of the wallpaper and paint. Maybe THAT is the crap we should be putting on the Mission Possible list!!
Just take this little white pill and it won’t bother you at all.
Your lights kind of match your blog background. Just sayin’.
Lovin’ the new blog background. Also, I’m not one of those anal people either. I would never redo an entire project, because it wasn’t perfect. never. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Great lights! And really, once the socks are inside your shoes, you won’t notice. I promise.
Oh, we have multiple layers of wallpaper in our bathroom too. It sucks. Someday I’ll get around to Doing Something About It.
Maybe.
So obviously you shouldn’t look at the socks I posted on my website. Because they are fraternal twins, rather than identical. I love them though, I am not twitchy like you and Jen.
And even though I am not participating in Mission Possible, the Chili Pepper socks could qualify, since they’ve been on the needles a while.
