jumpin’ jitters

The previously mentioned N was present at my shower last weekend, and gifted us (errr…me, as I’m the only one who will get use out of it) with a french coffee press and a pound of Starbucks coffee - Brazil Ipanema Bourbon. This is “a rare Brazilian coffee” that is described on the bag as being “nutty & soft.”

*snort* I laugh every time I read that.

So this week has been my introduction to french press coffee.

to quote…

UH

MUH

GUH!

Now, it could just be that the coffee itself is a wonder of wonders, that I am particular fond of all things nutty & soft *snort *. But coffee made this way is DELICIOUS. And WHOA I think that french press extracts EVERY LAST BIT of caffeine from the beans, because after I drink my two cups, I’m pretty much like this for the next two hours:

Damn.

Speaking of coffee, if anyone from Boca Java is reading this I SWEAR I am also drinking your coffees which are EXCELLENT so far. It’s just that my kitchen is still not completely my own (the flooring! it never ends!) and my coffee maker is not so easily accessible in the mornings. I think what I’ll do is rough grind some of the beans in the morning and bring them into work to use in my FRENCH PRESS!

See why I got SO pissed when the LoN broke the flask on mine?

I had my first experience with French Pressed a few months ago, and damn, it is amazing.

But why do they only make those tiny little press pots that make, what, 20 oz??? WTF? They should make them bigger. Much, much bigger.

    Yes. Bigger.

I just got a leetle one. just for me - a “4 cupper” that makes about 2 “ESC” cups of coffee.

There was an 8 cupper, but since Kev doesn’t drink coffee, and 2 is my LIMIT for one morning, this size was perfect.

Yeah, we got one of those, and we’ll never go back to a plug-in machine. Our friend says that our press makes “the crack cocaine of coffee”.

    Damn right!

I read that Roman paragraph of yours, and yeah, I have been there. I don’t drink coffee for that exact reason…

Uh… whoah… Where do IIII get some of that!??

French presses confuse me. Then again, I never did anything remotely coffee-like until Mom gave me a Starbucks gift card last fall. Then I experimented with every damn thing on the menu. Still don’t like straight coffee, but mmmm, macchiatos. :)

Seriously. French press rocks. If you are a tea person, they are also great for that too - makes the best strong tea you will ever have - forget the teabag!

Bodum makes HUGE french presses - they are purchasable at your local coffee shop or on Amazon.com. :-)

I see that you have solved your dilemma on whether to start using your gifts now or AFTER the wedding…LOL

The reason you don’t find a lot of huge french presses is because they are rarely insulated and generally the coffee within starts to get cold and weird tasting after about a half an hour. Better to brew a couple of batches over a period of time as far as I’m concerned.

And actually, while I wouldn’t describe it as “rare” or “nutty and soft”, I find the the Impanema to be a nice coffee. It has a really pleasant faint chocolate bitterness to it. Unfortunately it doesn’t come in decaf.

And yeah, because the water is in contact with the grounds for longer than with any other common brewing process (except turkish coffee), you do tend to get a lot more of the caffine from the beans.

Did I mention that I work at Starbucks?
