“did I feed you yet?”
I stare at Sadie’s food bowl, and then look over towards her bed. She is frozen in her “hopeful” position. Ears alert, head turned slightly away from me, but eyes wide and fixed on me. It’s the same position she assumes every time one of us stands near the food bin or treat table. It’s her “if I pretend not to care, they’ll feed me/give me a treat/throw the toy” stance.
“well, did I feed you or not?”
She doesn’t move. Dammit. I have a very vivid memory of scooping food into her bowl…but was that from last night? I fed her kind of late. What did I do this morning? I got up…got dressed…walked into the living room, turned on my laptop. Opened fridge. Closed fridge. Took Sadie out for a pee. Opened and closed fridge again (there’s NOTHING to EAT in here!)…I know I walked BY her food bowl many times, SURELY I fed her.
Is her food bowl wet? After she eats she cleans the bowl very thoroughly with her tongue. wet bowl means recent eats.
except…she’s slobbered water from the water bowl, and it splashed everywhere, including inside the food bowl. Dammit.
Sadie isn’t even pretending now. She’s staring directly at me, the very tip of her tail fluttering up and down in a restrained, excited wag.
*sigh*
“OK, you win. Here you go,” and I scoop the dry food into her bowl
She doesn’t run over right away. In case it’s a trick. It’s NEVER a trick, but she is still suspicious. She watches me with wide eyes as I come out of the kitchen and flop down on the couch. She continues to stare for another 30 seconds before I finally say “OH MY GOD, JUST GO EAT!” and she bolts over to eat her (first? second?) meal of the day.
Now she lays in her bed, staring at me. Shooting doggy psychic beams into my brain.
“you didn’t feed me yet. i am so hungry. poor doggy. you need to feed me“
I’m not falling for THAT one again.
BUT! I can see it. She’s going to STARVE.TO.DEATH. If you don’t feed her.RIGHT.NOW. How about a treat?
Sadie is too nice. My dogs make it very clear when they believe it’s food time.
hahahah! My dog does this too! We feed her twice a day, so it makes it doubly hard. BTW, It looks like Sadie’s lovin’ her new cubby.
She’s got it ALL figured out!
OMG! I have 3 dogs and they all try to pull that trick. And since sometimes I feed them and sometimes my husband feeds them most of the time neither of us bother to ask the other before dumping in another cup, well, they’re shall we say “well fed.” Sneaky little turds.
Hee hee! Way to go, Sadie!
