Pin the tattoo on the ESC

Next weekend I go home to the ‘burgh for some good old fashioned wedding planning and bridal showering.

I also, theoretically, if he doesn’t flake out on me again, get a tattoo from my brother. He designed it for me way back, based on my ideas, but the planets have yet to align to allow me to actually get it. I am determined this time, but my brother is in the process of taking over ownership of the shop, so things are a little crazy now. It might be that I miss out again.

The design: a loopy stylized celtic cross, encircled by a ring of DNA. go ahead and laugh, but my brother, who is covered with tattoos of skulls and guns, thought it was cool enough that he might get a similar version tattooed on himself.

I think I know where I want the tattoo. Kev REFUSES to give me any input. He doesn’t even really want to talk about it “GAH! Just DO it wherever, I don’t care!” I think he’s sick of me asking him for his opinion. He has none.

So I will ask the internets! Internets! Where should I get my tattoo? Let’s take a poll!

tattoopick

A: my shoulder

B: my thigh

C: my hip

D: lower back, aka “tramp stamp”

E: Mid back

Notice I have left any “naughty bits” off the list because 1. tattoos on naughty bits are gross, and 2. I’m getting tattooed by my BROTHER people, please try to be less disgusting, mkay?

Also, I have included some places on there that might be visible when I wear my wedding dress. This is a problem - though there is make up that covers tattoos for just such an occasion. I’ll have to think about that one.

If I can figure out how to make this a “sticky” post, I’ll leave it as the top post until next wednesday, which is how long you have to vote. Don’t let me down, internets!

Why is a lower back tat a tramp stamp? That’s where I’m thinking about getting my next one. Because my shoulder blade would hurt too goddamn much.

As a veteran tatto-wearer, I would offer these two bits of advice: Don’t put it (1) anywhere that can’t be covered, or (2) anywhere that’s likely to change shape with weight gain or loss (such as pregnancy).

That said, I vote for B or D. My fav of my own tats is at E, but on the front instead of the back–right between my breasts. I LOVE that one, and I can SEE it! :)

(First of all, I meant Tattoo-wearer, not tatto… Secondly, why do you have a picture of the back of your head?)

I asolutely love the thoroughness inherent of having a photo of the back of your head. I would go for either the thigh, where you can see it without the aid of a mirror, or the shoulder, with which you can display it during the summer months to people looking back at you as you walk on by…

Hmm… as you walk on by…

    will you call my name…

Damnit. Now I need to watch “The Breakfast Club”….

I believe I was taking a picture of how short my hair was after a haircut a while back. My hair might be shorter than that in the back now. I just happened to come across it while searching my flickr pics for “self portrait,” and thought “cool, now I can show front AND back!”

I did not come up with the term “tramp stamp.” I believe it might be from “the wedding crashers,” but I can’t confirm that as I haven’t seen the movie.

I like the idea of the arm, but my wedding dress is sleeveless. This is the conundrum.

I vote for the hip. I think the hip is one of the more sexy spots on a guy or gal. And it can be covered up or shown if you wear hip huggers or a halter - soemthing tells me you aren’t the kind of girl who wears halters though.

Personally if I ever decided to get a tattoo that’s wher eit would go, the inner hip area, because I wouldn’t want it on display. But if you’re looking to show it off, you’re better off going with the back.

Me wearing halters would scare small children. Seriously. Not a pretty sight.

Lower back - forget the “tramp stamp” nickname, the reality is, you will wear formals for other reasons throughout your life (maybe when you win the Nobel Prize, for instance) so you may want it not to show at other times, too.

Sounds like a really cool design, though!

hip! It’s sexy, you can see it and cover it.
and the neck tattoos remind me of gang girls, I do not know why but they do.

my personal fav. is the bullseye, or tramp stamp. i love it. i love its placement, i love the way it looks, i love everything about the lower back tat. mmm mmm mmmm.

Um, being that I would be totally grossed out to have my brother touch my thigh, or do a tramp stamp… I’d chose the back.

But I’d still even be grossed by my own brother touching me for as long as that would take, so maybe it’s good it’s not my brother giving ME a tatoo…

I need a shower, I’m feeling really gross!

I like the design sounds neat. No little ankle tatoo?? Yes I agree with Aimee.. be careful you don’t put it anywhere that will cause problems later.

So I vote for… um… how big is the design?

Ummmmm…. I had a cousin who has a tattoo on the back of her shoulder and it didn’t look dumb with her wedding dress. but everyone stared at it and not the dress.
Ummmm but then again….. the lower back is neat too, tramp or not but ummnmmmm

Okay I have no idea… I would only like a nice little ankle tattoo and that’s not an option here.

I have a “tramp stamp.” Yeah, that term is from Wedding Crashers. I sorta regret getting it there now. But overall, I can cover it if I want, or show it if I want. So it’s a good location.

BUT, even better, I like the left or right side of your lower back. Not a tramp stamp, but similar. And I’m thinking of getting another one, but am also undecided where. Foot is high on my rankings.

I also am a tramp-stamp wearer. I like the location — I picked it because it is a spot that doesn’t stretch a whole lot, easy to cover, etc. Also been told by many guys that it’s kind of sexy to see it peeking between the jeans/tshirts. I’d recommend the place for all these reasons, but I can also attest to the fact that it does not, in fact, stretch with weight loss or gain. I’ve fluxuated about 20 pounds in either direction in the 7 years I’ve had it, and have not seen any distortion.

Other arguments: Seeing that you are built very much like me (large bosomed) you won’t want the tattoo on your back anywhere your bra might touch it. I considered this spot, but once I had a meeting with the tattoo artist, I changed my mined — The first week or so, it’s itchy and scabby, and getting it rubbed by a bra strap might screw up the design if you make it bleed (intentionally or accidentally). Like me, you might also be squeemish about not wearing a bra for a few weeks.

The arm is also cool, but it limits the kinds of dresses/shirts you can wear in a dressy occasion — good if you have family members (or in-laws) that might be a little put-off by the idea of a tattoo. Thigh, the skin is too stretchy. Plus, if I had kids, I wouldn’t want the OB staring at my tattoo while I’m giving birth. Hip — ditto.

Easy, tramp stamp. That’s where I have mine, easy to show off when you want to and easy to cover up when you have to look professional.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Dana

E, back. For something like that I think that’s hand’s down the best place. I think in the centre up the top of your back - although that’ll hurt!

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 ESC

here’s what I don’t like about the back - any place on the back: I CAN’T SEE IT! If I’m going to get a tattoo, I want to be able to admire it! and i think the “tramp stamp” location is more for horizontal style tattoos, while mine would be more of a vertical design.

I had been considering higher up on my back…but yeah, that’s a good point with the bra strap. going braless for a week is NOT an option for me!!!

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 The Scoot

Am I to assume, er, that strapless is a non-starter?

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 ESC

    a non-what now?

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 Tracy

Bottom of back looks good or around shoulder blade. I spose it all depends on your pain threshhold and the size of tat as to where to get it done. I have one on my wrist, but on the outside not the inside, but it’s just a small chinese symbol.

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 jag

I say tramp stamp. I just like the location, I think it looks cool when a girl has one there and you can just see it peeking out and you’re all “cool. she has a tattoo there. I wonder what it is. I can’t see the whole thing. I shall ask her to show me.” And then you do and then she does and you talk about tattoos and how you are still to chicken to get one because HEY you want a tramp stamp too, and then you make a new friend. See how that works? Hee.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 TJ

Go for the tramp stamp, or the shoulder-blade. It also would depend on how big it is - I wouldn’t go for a big tat, just on principle.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 Vince

I think the shoulder would be cool. I like the thought of one on a naughty place, but then you couldn’t show it off. Unless you really are that much of an exhibitionist.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 ESC

no, ew! MY BROTHER WILL BE DOING THIS TATTOO! NO NAUGHTY PLACES!!!
