A year’s worth of fiber

OH I am tired.  So tired.  This weekend was so fun and so…um…expensive.  But fun!  And that’s what counts.

I concentrated mainly on fiber for this SAFF.  I only purchase one skein of yarn the entire weekend - woohoo!  Restraint!  But fiber…ohhhh, so much fiber.

obvious mystery!

What?  errr, ignore that.  Fiber!  SO much goodness!

corriedale wensleydale

Corriedale and wensleydale from Shepard’s corner

obvious mystery!

what?  ignore that.

A silk hanky.

tussah silk, alpaca silk blend, and superfine alpaca from little barn.

obvious mystery!

YOU KEEP BRINGING THAT UP!  shut UP!  it’s nothing!  I swear!

merino tencel bamboo

merino/tencel and some bamboo.

And more…not MUCH more, but more.  That I didn’t take pictures of because I haven’t yet so there.  Maybe tomorrow, but I’m tired.

obvious mystery!

what?  OK FINE!!!

lendrum wheel lendrum wheel lendrum wheel

I bought a wheel!  A very nice lovely wheel!  It’s a lendrum and I LOVE IT SO MUCH IT IS PROBABLY UNNATURAL!!!  I wanted to sleep with it that first night but Grace wouldn’t let me because she said there wouldn’t be enough room for her.  WHATEVER!  WE HAD A KING!  IT WOULD HAVE WORKED!  She ruins all my fun.  And her bones?  Are gross.  She cracks them CONSTANTLY.

So I love my wheel and that was my BIG HUGE PURCHASE for the weekend…

baby alpaca fleece

What?  The bag?  Yeah, I bought the bag for the wheel too.  So what?

Huh?  the OTHER bag?  The garbage bag?

baby alpaca fleece

Ummm…that?  That’s nothing.  probably garbage.  Maybe my dirty laundry from the trip.

Open it???  Why?  It’s nothing!  I swear!  No!  wait!  Stop!!!!

baby alpaca fleece

Fine.  You caught me.  It’s a fleece, OK?  HALF a fleece.  BABY ALPACA, alright?  And I DEFY you to put your hands in there and run your fingers through that LUXURIOUS SILKEN SOFTNESS and THEN tell me that it was a bad idea.  BECAUSE IT’S NOT!

Shut up!  I know I don’t own carders to comb it!  I have friends!  NICE friends!  Who can lend me some!  Umm…right?  ;)

SAFF was a blast, folks - here’s all the pics I took before my camera batteries died.

The wheel is beautiful - and so is your spinning! I didn’t know you had bought a fleece. But, um, there might have been an accident in the wool shed that resulted in me falling down and coming up with two fleeces (one alpaca, one corriedale.) Maybe.

So pretty! You need to name your wheel! I named mine Ella.

What wheel??? I didn’t see any wheel!

BTW - that wheel really is beautiful and it looks like it spins like a dream!!! So glad you had fun and it was great to see all of you. We had so much fun at dinner!!!! My throat still hurts from laughing so much!!

I had an accident in the fleece room too. 8.6# of a Montadale, coated fleece. Won 2nd place! But I sent mine off to get processed.

I have hand cards oorrrrr, you could come to my house for a carding party and use my drumcarder. But wash that paca first! We had so much fun!

Ditto on naming the wheel. Mine’s Lizzie Jane for Elizabeth Bennett and Jane Austen. Because I’m a geek.

I am mucho impressed by the fleece. I’ve always been too much of a wuss to buy one. Are you going to clean it yourself?

  • Aimee

I’m out of my league here. You are too impressive!

Dude, you bought a single treadle wheel! There aren’t many ST-lovers (like me) around any more! Congratulations! I’ve had my Lendrum for something like 20 years, and it’s still going strong.

I walked through the fleece room chanting “I don’t want to process raw wool… I don’t want to process raw wool..” and emerged unscathed. At my age, life’s too short to spend time washing and carding. Especially in a drought. But I’ve done it in the past, so I understand the appeal.

I did bring home 2 lbs of roving from Zeilinger’s though.

I told you to think of it as POPCORN. MY BONES ARE LIKE POPCORN…without the butter.

  • Inanna

Wow, that looks positively dreamy for a knitter like you.

    Lovely stuff. Nice wheel.
The alpaca, you can spin from locks after you’ve washed it. And no matter what anyone tells you, don’t “wait to wash it until you’ve spun it”. It will make a horrible mess and never really get clean. Wash it first. Once it’s dry, you can just flick the locks open and spin that way. No carding needed.

I’m a single treadle lover myself. By necessity since my left foot don’t work so good these dayz.

So, you didn’t get much then? If you ever feel like making some room, I’d be more than happy to adopt the wheel for you ;)
