Yesterday my back felt weird. Like I had cramps, but it wasn’t cramps. Weird. I took aleve. It didn’t help. Must have slept in a bad position
This morning I woke up still feeling funny. I decided to suck it up and go to work. I had to stand for a few stops on the marta train, and thought I might pass out. That can’t be good. Is the pain shooting down my right leg? Yes it is! I shall suck it up. Once I get to my office, I will be fine. Just fine. I need to find a comfy position, that’s all.
My office-mate, briefly back from her exile to the warehouse, thought it sounded like a pinched nerve. Aimee, via email, thought it sounded like a pinched sciatic nerve.
I CAN TOUGH THIS OUT! I AM TOUGH! I AM STRONG! I AM…
*oooooooooowwwwww it huuuuuuuurts*
This is when Aimee and Julie suggested I go home.
Can I do that? Just go home…NO! I AM STRONG, I AM TO..
Fuck this.
I went home. I hobbled like an old lady onto the MARTA trains and made my way back to my car. At this point, the fact that I hadn’t eaten breakfast, and left right before lunch, caught up with me. So I made it home with a big bag of goodies from the McDonald’s drive through, immediately popped two percocet, stuffed my face with food, and then PASSED OUT when the drugs kicked in.
So here I am, internet. Laying on my couch, on a heating pad, trying to get comfy, and still a little dizzy from the narcotics. Feeling…OLD. Because what if this IS sciatica? ONLY OLD PEOPLE GET SCIATICA!! Right? I am far too young and vibrant (*ouch*) to have sciatica.
We’ll see what my doc says tomorrow morning.
I have a sciatic nerve problem. Granted it came from a work accident. If it is not related to bone damage, there are ways to treat it with stretching.
For me, I always keep muscle relaxers handy for when it gets out of control, and I try to do yoga as much as possible.
Good luck.
BTW - I thought you wrote “pooped two percocet”
Well if you’re old because you have sciatic nerve problems, then so am I. I use to be so bad that I couldn’t even reach for anything, couldn’t grocery shop for 5 minutes without having to stop.
My chiropractor was the best thing in the world to come into my life! Took a long time, but it is better now. I was always told to lose weight, well the pain went away far long before I lost any weight so that was not the case. I did lose weight, but still every so often have the shooting pain from my back down my leg. But I just go see my chiropractor and he makes everything good again
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. Laying flat on the floor with your knees propped up with a pillow helps, and ICE not heat!
Yikes. Feel better! Back problems suck.
Bummer!! I’m sure you’ll feel better soon - just keep taking advantage of better living through chemistry.
Hope you get to feeling better and the doctor can help you. A Massage therapist might be able to help also.
I do like the better living through drugs.
I had a pinched nerve in my back that I exacerbated by ignoring and waiting for it to go away so I am very proud of you for going home. What would be better than a heating pad is an ice pack on your back. And if you can’t get comfortable then lay down flat on your back in the floor with your legs propped up on the couch. When my back was out because of a pinched nerve, that was the only thing that made it feel better. I hope your doc has good news for you. And go see a chiropractor!
I’ve had sciatica problems since I was in Junior High (stupid over-excited growth plates). Sometimes it’s a back twist or hip twist that brings it on, othertimes it’s just sitting and working too darn much. I hope your doctors say that it’s just irritated, give you goooooood anti-inflammatories, and you’re all better in a couple days.
