DYE, BITCHES!

Today Sandy had some of us over to her house for fiber dyeing fun. This was ideal for me, because:

1. I need to dye some yarn as per my Mission Possible 2008 objectives

2. Dyeing at Sandy’s meant her house got messed up, not mine

So it was basically win/win for me. I threw together the dye I had, 3 skeins of undyed yarn, a pot, an apron, some rubber gloves, and a big bottle of wine. Because THERE IS NO PARTY without wine.

It ended up being a fairly small group, just Sandy, Jane, Melissa, and me all working together with the dyes in Sandy’s excellent basement kitchen. Sandy totally has the party house - the basement also had a pool table. AND it opened out to their backyard…with a pool. Though the weather was a little too chilly and lightningy for any swimming today.

We had a blast! And gorged ourselves on bakery cookies and hummus. I think all of our stuff turned out pretty darned good, too. My pics below - though make sure you check out the others’ blogs, as I’m sure pics of me will turn up there shortly.

I had such fun today! My yarn and roving are still in their bags in the laundry room sink. My husband really needs to have his eyes examined because he came in and asked my if I knew there was food in the sink. Food?? Not even close.

Looks like a lot of fun. I’m jealous of Sandy’s basement kitchen! I dye my yarn in the garage.

Jane - I soaked my skeins in vinegar water for couple hours, then in Soak for a few more. the only one that is still bleeding a little bit is the brown, but it’s only a little and I’m not going to fuss over it. Today was so much fun! I hope I’ll be able to dye on my own now ;)
Katey - It must be sooo nice having a kitchen in the basement. I’m going to try dyeing on my own when some roving I ordered comes in - I’ll probably be doing it on my balcony!

My sock fiber finally stopped bleeding after the fifth rinse! But it’s drying now and I’ll take my pics in the morning.

It was fun and I hope we can do this again soon. Thanks for coming!

Can’t wait to see what the brown and pink will knit up like. Great job with the colors!
    See you soon.

That looks GREAT!!! I am SO SORRY that I missed the fun! I actually plain ‘ol forgot about it because we just have so much craziness going on right now. I don’t think I would have had time anyways but I was there in spirit!!!

Your yarn looks great! I wish I understood dyeing better. I took Claudia Handpaints’ class and still didn;t get pretty yarn like yours.

If you don’t want me to leave your house this Sunday with that skein of blue/green/black yarn, I suggest you hide it from me. ;-)
