stupid fucking dumbass!

OK, you are a young professional athlete who find himself to be a superstar very early in his carreer.

In your professional life, you wear a helmet for safety.

so what the fuck now???? YOU ARE A MORON!

As is ANYONE who doesn’t wear a helmet on a motorcycle.

shit shit SHIT FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!

(you can see that “go easy on the swearing” thing is working out well for me).

*sigh*

the guy who hit him was from Maine. I suspect a New England conspiracy.

Testosterone mixed with youth. A near-fatal combination. What a dumbass.

Yeah, but aren’t Americans a bit weird about the whole safety-on-a-motorcycle thing? I mean, not wearing a helmet’s pretty dumb, but when the British dudes whose bike magazine I read (about sports bikes) went to the States they got made fun of by a cop for wearing full leathers.

I mean, are people aware of just how easily friction will wear though your jeans, then your skin, then your muscle if you’re unlucky and fall off? Go full leathers! Or at least Kevlar jeans!

If it makes you feel any better, if one the Lions’ suffered a closed head injury, I doubt anyone would notice…

Last time I checked, a car trumped the entire defensive line of any football team. Roethlisberger, wear a helmet next time dude!

I see a man on a motorcycle in a helmet and leathers and I think, “At least he’s a little bit smart…”

I see a man on a motorcycle with shorts and no helmet and I think, “roadkill.”

i love how everybody jumps on the “helmet bandwagon”. just a guess, but if he’s a non helmet wearer, i’m guessing he’s also not a full face helmet kinda guy. so, a helmet wouldn’t have helped. and secondly, a helmet does nothing for your knees.

riding without a helmet makes you more defensive. plus helmets cause basal skull fractures (just ask dale earnhardt sr.) which can be just as deadly as not having one on. it’s a choice. and it’s no one elses choice but the rider. you want to make motorcycle riding safer? make all car/truck drivers take a course on motorcycle rider awareness. i can’t tell you the amount of times i’ve had to do some crazy movie maneuver just to avoid death at the hands of an unaware driver.

Chud~No matter how defensive he was, he was still going to get hit by this car. Not a reason to endorse not wearing a helmet. Neither is the possibility of a basal skull fracture. They’re just excuses.

Jamie~My mom and aunt used to tell me stories about motorcycle riders who ended up in the ER after crashes. If they hadn’t been wearing protective gear (at the very least jeans and long sleeves), the nurses used to pound the point home by digging the road rash our of their skin with a nice wire brush.

lame argument. he SHOULD have been wearing a helmet, and not one of those dorky skull cap “just barely there” helmets, but YES a full face helmet, which probably would have save his teeth, laceration, and sinus. and BULLSHIT on the “makes you more defensive.” maybe it makes YOU defensive, but not everyone is so careful. I’m guessing the “I don’t NEED a helmet, I’m INVINCIBLE!” types aren’t as much with the defensive driving than they should be.

no matter how defensive the driver OR the motorcyclist, accidents WILL happen, and those not wearing headgear will pay a higher price.

there are those that argue that seatbelts cause injuries when you’re wearing them, too. but better a broken shoulder than a crushed head. And while deadly injuries can occur with a helmet, at least according to the state of Oklahoma, you are far more likely to die without a helmet than with one.

I’m not saying you don’t have the right to choose - I’m saying you are a complete and utter dumbass if you make the wrong choice.

And yes, a helmet would have done nothing for his knees. damn him anyway.

and Jamie - my grandmother said that in the hospital, they used to refer to motorcycle accident victims as “organ donors.”

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 The Scoot

… and their vehicles as donorcycles….

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 Dana

But as was mentioned earlier: probably 90% (pulling that % out of nowhere, but certainly a LOT) of bike crashes were caused by a car who “didn’t see you”.

So yeah, it’s a choice to ride something dangerous (but fun!), but it’s pretty hard not to resent people after you’ve been pulled out on a few times!!

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 Jamie

Yes, well, we do, sometimes refer to donorcycles and organ donors. Just about 90% of my damn coworkers ride those damn things, so it’s not as funny to them, ha ha.

And I think anybody who is defensive enough to wear a helmet or a seatbelt has already demonstrated defensive driving. Anyone who doesn’t has already demonstrated either ignorance or stupidity. And since ignorance of helmets is pretty difficult, I can easily say if you are ignorant of why and when you should wear a helmet, you are stupid.

I get in an argument with another coworker about bicycles on the dangerous roads in our county. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve topped a hill and had to swerve into the oncoming traffic lane to miss one. I once said if there was oncoming traffic I wouldn’t take the chance with my life, or my kids, I’d just plow the bicyclist and save myself and the oncoming car. She was horrified, and to this day brings it up everytime there is a moral question. I am told by her I should sacrifice myself and the occupants of the other car because we all have a better chance of survival, ha ha. Hell no, only if I hit the bike do we all stand a better chance of survivial. And I have little sympathy for the bicyclist on unsafe non-bicycle route roads!

I get all the bicyclists hot by saying that!

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Vince

I never got why motorcyclists don’t want to wear helmets. I get the whole “freedom” thing, wind blowing in your hair, yada yada. This should be a lesson to all those guys.

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 K

The best reason for him to wear a helmet: If he would have taken the extra 15-20 seconds to put on this helmet, there would not have been an accident because other driver from Maine would have been through that intersection already…

Jamie, you should tell your coworker that if you avoided the bicyclist and hit the other car, you might kill the people in that car or even yourself, then you might bounce off that car and run over the bicyclist anyway, jump the sidewalk and run over the local senior citizen group out for a stroll (you KNOW they are not fast enough to get out of the way) then picking up speed while sliding down a hill your car plows through the childrens playground then…

    Well, you get the idea.

  15. Gravatar Icon 15 ESC

Hehehehee…Kev is morbid! Turn a scruples into a mass killing!

I get all the bicyclists hot by saying that!

I always asks drivers to just use their brakes. Swerving is a last resort, I would think.

If you’re going too fast to brake, then be glad it’s “just” a bicycle and not a deer or cow or stalled truck in the road…

(but that’s just me, I piss of a lot of drivers by saying that there is nothing wrong with a bicycle using the road, when 99% of accidents are caused by things like OTHER CARS or MORONS ON THE PHONE. Bicycles should be the least of our concern)

As for Big Ben? Have fun at training camp, dude. This season’s gonna hurt.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 sideshow bob

Favre would have got up off the ground, shotgunned a beer, decdked the driver and signed a few autographs…

Just kidding. Big Ben is my #2 guy. When is Seattle gonna start bitching about how the trafic cops blew the call?
