On the weekends, we amuse ourselves by torturing the dog.

I bought these faux-chocolate dog biscuits for Sadie in the hopes that I would fool Kev and we’d have a repeat performance of last time. So close! I couldn’t let him do it, though.

Grace and Barron came into town on Saturday to buy tiles for their newly rebuilt back porch. We planned to meet for lunch. I waited for Grace’s call to tell me they were on their way, all the while thinking “It’s weird that Grace is coming to Atlanta and not going to Ikea.”

phone rings

“Hi, we’re on our way. Also, do you mind if we meet at Ikea for lunch?”

HURRR! Totally called it.

So while I was there, I decided to replace our dingy paper hanging lamp. Every time I bump the damn thing it ripped a little more. NO MORE PAPER! I had my eye on the FILLSTA lamp. Plastic! And when it gets dusty, just take it apart and hose it off! Perfect.

Except when I got it home, I realized the problem. The paper lamp plugged in and hung from the cord. FILLSTA is hardwired.

I gave Kev the sad puppy face.

He disassembled and unscrewed and respliced and in a few minutes…

My lamp!!!

I love it.

Saturday I decided it was past time to try my recent boozy experiment.

It’s a beautiful pinkish orange.

We tried it with lime juice, simple syrup, and some soda water. Refreshingly tart! I blended it with ice and some mangoes gone overripe. Tropical deliciousness!

We will be enjoying this bottle for a while .

What else, what else…

I started a lace project. Because I was getting twitchy not working on a shawl.

But don’t you already have a lace stole on the needles somewhere?

Who keeps letting you in here? Get out.

The pattern is Luiza and the yarn is NummaNumma Saucy, in the “Red Wine Reduction” colorway.

Totally channeling my friend Olivia on the color. PEEENK!!!

I possibly overindulged on the grapefruit vodka, because Sunday suuuucked. Really, I didn’t even drink that much! But Sunday I was tired and headachey alllll day. The only thing that salvaged it was that we finally went to see Harry Potter.

Tonight I tried to get a rare picture of Sadie playing with a toy, something she doesn’t do very often without a lot of encouragement. She saw me with the camera, though, and promptly dropped it. So instead you get this, which happened when I pushed the “take picture” button instead of the “off” button:

HOT LEGS!

I don’t take very many pictures of myself that I actually like, and there’s not much of my body that I feel is really show-off worthy. But I do like my legs :)

Sadie is very pleased with herself.

Soooooooo yeah…what’s going ON?

Yeah, I have nothing to post about now that the tour is over. I am not going to start talking about current events, because frankly, whenever I start even THINKING about current events, I just get the urge to march up to washington dc and grab every single politician, democrat and republican and just SHAKE THEM AND SHAKE THEM AND SHAKE THEM AND SCREAM WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE CAN YOU JUST PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES FOR ONE MINUTE AND TRY TO SAVE THIS COUNTRY YOU PATHETIC WASTES OF HUMAN EXISTENCE????

But I am ALREADY on blood pressure medicine and really, aren’t there enough websites doing the “yell pointlessly at politicians” thing already?

Instead I just keep spinning, just keep spinning, just keep spinning, spinning, spinning…

Sorry, Finding Nemo was just on the other day…

I was on a roll until I couldn’t keep the yarn from breaking to save my life. After the millionth time, I decided it was time to step away.

Well how is work going?

I have made PROGRESS on projects at work, which is GOOD, finally. It’s frustrating to be working on Big Projects where your PROGRESS is reliant on other people to do a good part of it, and…well…they don’t. Or they do it very….slowly….and you just want to MARCH OVER THERE AND SHAKE…

I mean…send politely worded emails reminding them of their duties.

*snicker*

duties…

MOSTLY I work with very awesome people, and really, can you ask for better than that? Nothing sucks all the fun out of life quicker than working with irritating joy-vampires. Ask me how I know.

But if you could please aim any job-finding mojo you have towards my husband, that would be great. Kev’s job ended abruptly and unexpectedly not long after I started my current job. Because the universe won’t tolerate us both being employed for any reasonable length of time. Hopefully he’ll find something soon.

I mean, COME ON…who WOULDN’T want to hire him??

He’s here to reset your network login.

I leave you with a picture of my very sleepy dog. It’s a rough life for a dog out there.

Every morning I wake up Sadie so that she can eat breakfast and go out for her morning constitutional. Every morning I get the GLARE OF DEATH from her, because bitch is LAZY. Well, she’s 13, so I guess I can cut her some slack. But seriously, I’ve been getting the GLARE OF DEATH from her every morning for years. It’s pretty funny.

“If you call me Sleeping Beauty one more time, I will poop in your shoes.”

Since it’s not fair that I took pictures to show off how rough my poor, abused dog looks in the morning, I took a quick picture of me.

Of course, I had benefit of makeup. Though I think I need to start wearing lipstick more often.

No post yesterday because it was knit night and I worked on the baby blanket instead of spin. So NO DAY 20! I know you’re all disappointed.

Today was CHALLENGE DAY on the tour, so I decided my challenge would be to finish off the silk hanky that damaged my flyer last week. I finished spinning all 0.3oz of the hanky.

And then I thought, well, that’s not SO much of a challenge, since I had already started it last week. So how about I try my hand at navajo plying? Basically you make a 3 ply out of a single bobbin. I haven’t ever tried it before, so that should be a nice challenge.

SUCCESS! Though let me say, when you navajo ply, it seems like your yarn is more prone to snapping. And when silk snaps. you have no real good way of attaching it back together again. And when you CAN get it back together, it’s difficult to remake the loop and resume plying again.

Pain. In. The. Ass.

But there wasn’t much of it, so it didn’t take long.

It’s a tiiiiiiny little skein

61 yards from a 0.3oz hanky

Today was too nice a day to be stuck inside spinning. It’s a rare day in Atlanta when a July day is NOT a sweltering 90+ degrees. Today it was only in the upper 80s, and we enjoyed the day by having a nice lunch on the patio of one our regular places, and then spending a couple hours at the pool. Well, I did, anyway. Kev is not so much a pool guy, so he enjoyed the day after lunch by watching Netflix and taking a nap.

I’d be more judgy, but when I got in from the pool, I took a nap, too. Napping is what weekends were MADE for!

I did get around to spinning, though. I decided to take a break from the silk. I have been assured that wearing a groove into the flyer of your wheel is not unusual, and older wheels tend to show this kind of damage. Not scorch marks, though. That pretty much stunned everyone into silence, then high fives. YOU BURNED YOUR WHEEL! HIGH FIVE! I’ll bet that dumbass know-it-all spinner dude from RAVELRY never spun so fast he scorched his wheel! (yeah, YOU know who I mean).

So yeah, taking a break from the silk. Instead I pulled out a braid from Gale’s Art (shut up, I like her fiber, OK??? IT’S NOT STALKING IF I’M ONLY BUYING EVERYTHING SHE MAKES!). It’s her Blue Face Swirl, which is a base of white and dark BFL blended together, then dyed, giving it a swirled light/dark look.

The colorway is Sizzle

I just started spinning it. It’s clear that I’ve been spending too much time spinning silk or things with silk blended in, because I keep snapping the yarn as I spin from pulling it out too thinly. Whoops!

One of the draw backs of my single treadle wheel is that one leg does all the work. And that leg is starting to feel the burn of spinning every day – even after taking two days off. FEEL THE BURN! After the Tour is over, I’ll expect to have a ROCK HARD right leg, and soft squishy left leg.

And you thought I couldn’t get any sexier.

BONUS SADIE PICTURE

I do not want to play today

This is half of the 3rd bump. With Bonus Sadie action! And also my dirty rug…dear God, WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO VACUUM THIS WEEKEND???

Saw Thor and ate too much Mexican food. All that cut into my time today.

NOTE TO PARENTS: a theater in a sketchy mall showing PG-13 movies is NOT an acceptable baby sitter for your small children.

Thursday night means KNIT NIGHT and while my wheel does fold down and fit into a handy HUGE carrying bag, I did not feel like dragging it into a semi-crowded bar in the middle of the bustling Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta. Instead I chose a far more portable option – my trindle:

I’m pretty sure beer enhances drop spindle skills.

Most of the regulars showed, and two even brought their far more portable and bar-friendly wheels.

Stacey is still learning, but is allllll smiles.

Kat is working on her long draw/spinning from the fold technique, using the BRIGHTEST AWESOMEST fiber from Gale’s Art.

Fear the trindle

We were quite the freak show in the back of the bar. Several people stopped to chat and ask what we were doing, but most people just stared. As we have been knitting there for a while now, we’re pretty used it. At least most of them weren’t drunk.

Result of my labors:

This is a merino/alpaca blend that I have been slooooowly working on with my trindle for a while now. One day I’ll be done with it, but I’m in no hurry.

I bought my trindle a few years ago. It’s an early style by the maker. He’s since upgraded and gone fancy – where you can buy the shaft (*snicker*) and beads separate, and the beads are secured on unbendable carbon fiber arms that you can swap out for beads of different weights. Mine was purchased as one, non-changeable piece, the beads are on stiff (*snort*) wire that can be bent, and that seems to affect how well the trindle spins. It definitely doesn’t spin as well as it did when I first got it. So I am tempted to buy a new one…but do I really want to drop $40 on something I only use a few times a year?

Ponder…

Because you’ve been so good about reading my Tour de Fleece posts, your reward is a long overdue Sadie pic.

This was taken just a few moments ago.

As soon as I started typing this post, she plopped herself down in front of me and looked at me to say “Woman, you have been gone all damn day. Pay attention to me NOW, dammit!” So I stuck a treat on her nose and made her post for a picture. HA! That’ll teach you to be such an attention whore, dog!!!!

Whoooooo’s a good doggie? WHO’S a good doggie??? You are! Yes you are!!!!

Good lord, do I STILL have a blog?? Remember when I used to post all the time? Yeah, those were the good old days. Then I got a real job and discovered ravelry, twitter, and facebook. Blogging didn’t stand a chance.

SO! What have we missed? There was my birthday – Kev and I went to see a play, The 39 Steps, which was based on a Hitchcock movie, but really was a comedy. Highly recommend. After that we met two of my favorite people, Bob and Sandy for dinner at a new place called the Pharm House Restaurant. Cute little place – good food, and good service from our waitress. If you’re looking for a good place to eat in Decatur, check it out – food is tasty and the prices are reasonable.

Fast forward…and…umm…that’s about it. Work has been busy. Big important project, involving implementing a big fancy new system that’s going to solve all our problems. Or so I’ve been told. Lots of hours, working late with the very nice, very PATIENT people from the company that’s installing it and setting it all up for us. Meanwhile our current system has become sentient, discovered we’ve been plotting its demise, and has started destroying documents I put into it. This has resulted in a very frustrating situation for me, and not a very pleasant week. I expect a naked Arnold Schwarzenegger to walk through the door any minute, shooting things and stealing leather clothes off of a biker gang. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS DOCUMENT?

No, sorry, it’s gone. It was here. I can click on it. But alas, the document…it is not there. *sob*

I hate being thwarted at my job. It’s been a frustrating week.

But it has been a calorie rich week. JEEEESUS CHRIST, people. EVERY DAY, we’ve had a reception, or a party, or a lunch, and there’s food and cake and cookies and candy and it’s just EVERYWHERE!

Of course, I brought in cookies, too…but that’s different. I brought homemade cookies of LOVE. Well, everyone seemed to love them, anyway.

We’re mostly ready for Christmas – all the gifts are bought. Well, mine are. I can’t say if Kev’s finished his yet. I really hope he found that voodoo doll of Joe Lieberman I asked for!

side note: anyone else spend the past 24 hours or so yelling at CNN? just me? OK.

We’ll be making the drive up to Pittsburgh next week – keep clear weather thoughts in your mind, especially through West Virginia. Those mountains can be nasty in the snow.

Until then, this weekend will be more baking, wrapping, and a Christmas party at our departmental Director’s house. I’ve heard tell there will be Wii and karaoke. Wooo? Do I really want to see my bosses do karaoke? I hope there will be wine so I’ll survive.

OH WAIT. I can’t drink. I’m on antibiotics for my INGROWN TOENAIL OF DOOM! So if anyone wonders why I’ve been gimpy the past few weeks, that’s why. I have crazy mutant toenails, and from time to time, one decides to try to kill me. But I have antibiotics, a prescription for tylenol with codeine, and a referral to a podiatrist. I haven’t had to see one since I was a teenager (and OMG, I’m not making this up – his name was Dr. Walk. Dr. Walk the podiatrist!!!), so this should be fun. I’m hoping he or she will do a minor surgical procedure so that I will NEVER have to go through this again. And then, I never have to blog about it again! IT’S WIN/WIN FOR US, PEOPLE!!!

NOTE: don’t worry, there will be no yogurt blogging – I also got a prescription for diflucan. SEE WHAT I DO FOR YOU? DO YOU DOUBT MY LOVE?

I will sooth my discomfort with Christmas baking, so stay tuned this weekend for pictures of delicious baked goodies. And funny pictures of Sadie.
