This was the most productive saturday we’ve had in a long time. After sleeping in, and then going out and gorging ourselves on juicy burgers for lunch, and then coming home and lounging like beached whales…THEN we got our acts together and started cleaning off the balcony. It was the first nice weekend we’ve had this year, and I wanted to take full advantage.
Compared to previous years, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could be. Some leaves in the back corners, old pots of dirt and long dead plants to dump out…a container of potting soil that somehow got flooded with water and made for some messy cleanup…but really, not bad.
Our plastic storage cabinet got put up on blocks and Kev drilled holes in the bottom to provide drainage. Apparently at some point this winter it flooded and water settled in the bottom, ruining one bag of charcoal (did you know charcoal could get moldy? weird!), so Kev wanted to prevent future mishaps.
During a break, we could hear our downstairs neighbor sweeping her patio…which seemed fruitless, since we weren’t done. Sure enough, when we got back to work, she hopped out into the yard and yelled up to us that we were getting dirt and leaves on her porch. Yeah, and? Sucks to be on the bottom floor! We get shit from our upstairs neighbor on our balcony, what makes this chick think she’s a sooper speshul angel snowflake?? Our balcony is decking…there are spaces in between the boards, there is NOTHING to be done about this!!!
What I WANTED to tell her was “Tell you what, you shut the fuck up about a few leaves on your patio and the next time you or your sister decide to smoke on your porch and stink up our living room, we WON’T dump a bucket of water on your head. How does that sound?” But I didn’t get the chance, as Kev told her he’d clean up some of the leaves that fell down.
Spoilsport.
Anyway, the balcony is clean, the seeds are planted in my seedling flats, and Sadie has been brushed clear of much shedding hair (I was already dirty, I figured I might as well be hairy, too). GO US!
Now we are showered and tired and no way any nookie will be happening tonight. Dammit. The price of productivity.

I think it’s the weather making everyone so damn productive. We’ve been the same way, too.
