Hey! There was a party yesterday! Knitters and spinners converged on the house of blogless Jacquie, and on her two little dogs, many cats, and one parrot. It was the animal house! Except the cats were outside. There was soooo much food. I decided to experiment at a party that was not my own and make a acorn squash and bleu cheese galette, topped with carmalized onions. Being that there were only a few scraps left, I’d say it was a success. The only reason it probably wasn’t gone completely was the fact that there was OH MY GOD SO MUCH FOOD! Yet I have no pictures of the food. OH WELL!
Before the white elephant-esque gift exchange, I was surprised with birthday cake! and presents! WOW! It wasn’t even my birfday yet! It was a little overwhelming.
Co-hostess Claudia gave me 7oz of baby alpaca. This stuff is sooo soft. I can neither confirm nor deny that I promptly shoved this down my shirt to feel it against my skin. Mmmm…sinfully luxurious.
I had complained after SAFF that nobody had TOLD me about Miss Babbs and I was the ONLY ONE EVER who didn’t get anything from her. Well, now I feel like kind of a whiner because I was gifted with two skeins! Jacquie gave me the green and blue on the left, and Jane gave me the pink and purple on the right.
Jen gave me this pretty spunky eclectic roving in soft blues and golds. Hey, it matches my pillow!
Then we did the gift exchange, where everybody got a number and we picked gifts in order, or you could steal someone else’s gift that went before you. Everything started out nice and cordial but WHOA…towards the end? The claws came out. I know I wouldn’t want to be Melissa right now…
I originally picked a box with a ginormous amount of chocolate in it, which was promptly stolen away by the VERY NEXT PERSON, Steve. Which is just as well, because I don’t need to be eating that much chocolate…no matter how heavenly the aroma…
Anyway, I ended up with some gorgeous felted bags and little sweater keychain from (blogless?) Tammy!
Which I guarded for the rest of the exchange by putting back in the gift bag and moving it slightly behind me, and just pointing my camera at anyone who came close. GET BACK! MINE! MIIIIIINNNEEE!!!!
It’s funny with these kind of exchanges, because you want a good gift, but you don’t want to get an AWESOME gift, because you just KNOW that someone is going to take it for you. So it’s kind of a mixed emotion thing when you open your gift…a look of sadness crosses your face because oh…it’s beautiful…let me just hold it a little while…before I have to give it up….before it’s cruelly ripped from your hands. I didn’t steal gifts from anyone either time I had to pick, because…well…all the stuff was NICE…but…what if the stuff left under the tree was BETTER??? I preferred a surprise.
Here’s the pictures from the party. Note the looks of anguish and greed! Fortunately, wine and a lot of chocolate trifle helped smoother over most hurt feelings.

that looks like it was so much fun. i simply adore your little felted bag… i want it!!
Very nice! You know, I didn’t get any Miss Babs either, so you weren’t the only one.
(And no, I’m not hinting that you should send me one of your skeins, since you got two.)
Looks like you guys had a blast.
I’m not scared!
Looks like tons of fun. Makes me want to knit, but I have to pull a batch of soap and half a dozen votives, so I don’t think I’ll get time to knit tonight.
