ETA: button info now on it’s own page! Click the shop tab in the header or just go here.
I have buttons. Lots of buttons. Designs from everywhere in my brain, flowing forth, in button form. Inspiration from my knitting friends helps.
Now…what to do? Do I put them on etsy and pay for the listing? I’ll lose some profit in the listing and, really, etsy is so over-stuffed full of cool handcrafted items, that I’m not sure my buttons would even rate. I could set up some kind of thing on my blog for now…anyone know of any good plugins?
How am I going to ship these things? If someone buys one or two, I can probably buy the smallest padded envelope possible, but if someone buys 10, that’s gets a little clunky. I like the idea of recycling prescription bottles for use in shipping, but that’s a limited resource. (KNITCH FRIENDS! BRING ME YOU EMPTY PRESCRIPTION BOTTLES!)
I know that the real money will be in bulk purchases. Teachers! Email me. Let’s talk. Buttons make good rewards, and kids love ‘em. So I’ve heard. And I discount for bulk.
For the rest of you? $1.50 each, 4 for $5.00. Plus shipping , which let’s say is another $1.50 for up to 10 buttons, $3 for 10-20 buttons – to US only. If you’re willing to pay international rates, I’m willing to figure out how much that would cost. Email me if you want bulk – evilsciencechick (at) gmail (dot) com. That’s also my paypal email (paypal only). Unless you’re a local, in which case, no shipping if I see you at Knitch, and I can take cash. And of course unless you’re an investor, in which case, let me know if you like any I have so far, and I’ll hold them for you ![]()
Jen is working on a SAFF design (or her husband is) and I plan to use Sandy‘s son’s GA knit bloggers design as soon as I get a jpg from her *cough*HINT!*cough*.
Here are the designs I have so far:
Some of them are actually little jokes from the knitting group. But the rest should translate nicely for…you know…”normal” people.
And peeps, if you have an idea for a button – email me. I can make you alllll the buttons you want. Or if you just have a funny idea for a button, let me know. If it sells, you get free button! It’s win/win!
I’ll try to get an actual page shop up some time this week.

Ooh can I do a design? Just for fun
If you’re willing to pay for shipping to Argentina, I will make you buttons, Nico
Well I’m beginning to think I need one that says “get your damn hands off my belly” and I’m not even showing yet so god knows what it’ll be like when I am.
I think the shipping to Denmark might be a bit much for just one badge though.
Yikes – $10.45 cheapest to Denmark. Maybe if you bought ALOT of those buttons and just pinned them everywhere?
Uh… you have an eBay account, right? I’m sure eBay could offer you a good way to sell your buttons without reinventing the wheel.
How much is shipping to Metro Detroit?
You might be able to advertise in the forums over on Ravelry and get buyers that way as well.
What size are the buttons?
Scoot – again, as on etsy. There are charges to list things, and when I’m selling something for $30, I don’t mind paying a $1 listing fee. But when I’m selling SMALL somethings for $1.50, those listing fees are killer. When I get my bulk button mojo on, I will sell on the ebay. And I figure for one of those small padded envelops, I can just slap on two or three stamps. So, postage and handling…$1.50.
Julie – I feel awkward doing that on ravelry. Craftster has rules about advertising in their forums. I’m not sure if ravelry does yet, but I don’t want to open a huge door. I might write to Casey and ask if I can use the ravelry symbol in doing some personalized buttons for people going to SAFF and then mention it in the SAFF forum.
The buttons are light enough to shove into a padded mailer with around a dollar worth of first class postage. Ask me how I know
DC – they’re 1 inch buttons, which is small, but cooler looking than dorky big ones.
THESE ARE GREAT!!! Well – will you be at Knitch this week? I am leaving for Asheville on Saturday. I’d love to score some buttons from you before hand. They are all fab, but of course I need the lumpy heifer the most! Too bad I don’t take any prescriptions. No bottles forrrr you…
a lot of the groups have specific “pimp your stuff” threads on the forums – I know the spinning groups and the Etsy group do. If there’s a thread for it, I think it’s cool to do – Ravelry is big into supporting its members.
I got the OK from Casey to advertise my wares in a couple threads – not too many, because he said that might seem spammy if people were members of more than one or two groups that i posted in. For right now, I just did the atlanta/georgia group and the SAFF group. Basically, I just said “hey I’m selling buttons!” and linked to my shop page. Next month, I’ll maybe do it in another group or two.
However, if YOU wanted to mention your good friend’s new business venture in a couple of your groups…I wouldn’t object
I love your buttons but Nate and I had a great cackle over the Sadie movie.
ESC,
Your Buttons are Spectacular!
xoxo,
TDR
That does seem a bit much but I suppose you could send one to my hotel in San Francisco next week….
I’m thinking I should perhaps wear them with the pins sticking out and not fastened – that would teach people about touching my belly without asking.
I NEED a yarn pirate button. I cannot be complete without one. You better have one ready for me when I come kidnap, er , pick you up for SAFF.
The small padded envelopes will cost $1.13 in shipping. This, I do know.
Grace – I’m on it.
TG – then $1.50 for shipping and handling will work just fine. thanks!
Caro – I can make you TWO buttons. “Yes I am pregnant.” and “please do not touch.” and you can pin them on your belly
Nanner – all I can say is thank god Sadie will never be able to hold anything I’ve done to her against her.
