Intarsia must be derived from the Latin word meaning “tangled as fuck,” because I have a tangled mess surrounding me every time I move. Every time I think I have the yarns all straightened out, I scratch my nose and the whole thing goes to hell. What is the cause of the hell?
This is the bag I’m making for SAFF. I designed the chart by importing a jpeg of the evilchick into KnitPro. It’s knit with lamb’s pride bulky (the blue) and scraps of yarn I had laying around or donated to me (thanks, Olivia!), and also some Patons SWS I picked up. I knit the bottom, and then picked up around the edges and knit in the round until I got to where I wanted to start the chart. Then I put the back stitches on another size 13 circular (what, everyone doesn’t have 2?) and knit the evilchick flat. I’m almost done with that side, then I’ll knit the back…I’m contemplating a simple pattern (meaning 1 color) on the back instead of just plain. Maybe a biohazzard symbol, or something equivalently evil-sciencey. Then I’ll stitch up the sides, i-cord some handles, and then felt the whole thing in washing machine.
Oh yeah.
I’m going to be the coolest girl at SAFF.

Dude, that is AWESOME!!! You really will be the coolest chick there.
I can’t wait to see it felted.
I don’t have a singular size 13, circular or other. I likes the tiny work.
But the ESC bag is very cool.
Dude, I’d pay 49.95 plus shipping and handling for an Evilchick bag…
dude, the yarn cost more than that.
I’d have to sell this bag for $200, MINIMUM.
I had no idea yarn was so expensive.
OK, maybe not more, but not by much: the bright blue yarn was $8.50 a skein x 4 = $34. The white and light blue yarns were $6 each = $12. The brown was scraps I had, and the black and red were donated, so I won’t count them. That’s $46 for just the yarn. Plus I have put many hours of skilled labor into it. How much an hour should a craftsman get for their labor? (you don’t have to answer, this is a BIG question on knitting forums, for those who want to earn extra money by knitting)
So far I’ve spent maybe…10 hours on the project. If my labor is worth $10 an hour, then that adds $100 to the cost right there. It might take another 10 hours (if not more)to finish – especially if I put another pattern on the back.
a $200 price tag is generous.
so if someone ever hand knits something for you, treat it with respect. It’s not just that good yarn is expensive, it’s just that it takes time and energy and love.
I LOVE IT!! Oh to be as crafty as you!
ESC, you forget that I am a rust belter. There ought to be a knitter’s union…
